The Supe’s Group came together December 17, 2013 to share in a holiday luncheon and share their ideas with Dr. Chargois and administrators from around the district. The Supe’s Group was formed at the beginning of the 2013-14 school year to assist Superintendent Dr. Timothy Chargois and the administration in addressing the needs and concerns of the students within the district. Members of this group were chosen from secondary campuses and meet three to four times a year with various members of administration to discuss all types of issues happening on their campus and the district as a whole.
“In the past we’ve had the annual superintendent’s Valentine Party where students would share their experiences with the administration. I wanted to take that and expand it to be a year round event. I want to keep that dialogue going” said Dr. Chargois.
The holiday luncheon was the second meeting of the Supe’s Group and consisted of various updates from administration in regards to different concerns that were shared in their last meeting. During the meeting students heard from BISD Police Chief Clydell Duncan, Director of Food Services Joanna Genuardi, Director of Transportation Ezell Brown, and Director of Maintenance Joe Bowser.
“Our goal in these meetings is to discuss issues that are important to the students and give them an opportunity to take ownership of their district,” said Chargois. “It is important that the students feel that they have a voice when it comes to the education process and that they take an active part in their school community.”
The next meeting of the Supe’s Group will be in April.
