The theme of the West Brook High School Career Day on Friday, February 21, 2014, was “And Oh, the Places You’ll Go!” which was adapted from the title of the book by Dr. Seuss.  The primary goal of this career day was to celebrate West Brook High School graduates and the positions that they now hold.  Posters were placed throughout the campus with pictures of these very successful former students.

The format for Career Day was Career Clusters.  Students were given the opportunity to select one cluster from a list of eleven (11) Career Clusters.  There were three one-hour presentations in which one-third of the school attended.

The following clusters were well represented:

  1. Medical Cluster panel included a podiatrist, gynecologist, veterinarian, registered nurse instructor from Lamar Port Arthur, and several instructors from Lamar Institute of Technology.
  2. Artistic Cluster was presented by a graphics arts instructor, theater arts instructor, and several instructors from Lamar Port Arthur Music Department.
  3. Law and Public Service Cluster included a judge, a lawyer, a court reporter, chief of the fire department, and several members of the armed services.
  4. Business Cluster was composed of an MBA, tax preparer, chief financial officer from the Catholic Diocese, and employees from Target’s business department.
  5. Marketing Cluster included the owner of Terry Real Estate, Lamar Institute of Technology instructor, and Junior Achievement representative.
  6. Science Cluster was formed by science instructors and a meteorologist.
  7. Technology Cluster included a systems analyst and a computer programmer.
  8. Hospitality Cluster included the business owner Casual Entrees and instructor for the Taylor Career Center.
  9. Career Technology Cluster was composed of a counselor from Taylor Career Center, instructor from Lamar Institute of Technology, and a training center owner.
  10. Education Cluster included two principals, a guidance counselor, and a teacher.
  11. Engineering Cluster contained several engineers from ExxonMobil and a senior Mirabeau Scholar chemical engineering major at Lamar University.

Students listened attentively and enjoyed the clusters they selected.
