On February 20 the Greater Beaumont Chamber of Commerce hosted the annual Leadership Beaumont 8th Grade Leadership Program. Five students were chosen from each BISD middle school and attended the event along with students from other area middle schools, charter schools, and private schools at Lamar University.
Students were presented with valuable lessons on leadership skills, problem solving, and goal setting. The students were also given the chance to tour the Lamar campus and interact with current university students through various activities.
The goals of the program are to build self-esteem through participation and accomplishment, focus on leadership skills and qualities, provide students with the opportunity to network with students from around the area, inspire students to seek higher education, and to provide information about career choices and opportunities.
