CityofBeaumontPoliceandBeaumontIndependentSchoolDistrictPolicedepartmentsrespondedin force and quicklytothecall thatturnedouttobea prank.BothPathways,with140studentsand19 staff members,and theneighboringPaul BrownCenterwereimmediatelyplaced onlock down.
Policeconductedaroombyroomsearch,evacuatedthestudentsand thenconducted anotherfull sweepof theschoolprior toliftingthelockdownandallowing studentsandstaff toreturnto school.
AccordingtoJessieHaynesof theBISDSuperintendent’s Office,policearenowtracingthenumber fromwhich theprankcall came.Theintentwillbe toprosecutetheprankcaller.Thiscouldinclude seriousfinesandreimbursementforthe policeandresourcesused torespond tothe call. “Weare happyit wasnotarealsituationandthat our studentsandemployeesaresafe.Withallof the serious catastrophicthingsgoing oninour worldtoday,itisdisturbingtoseesomeonemisusethe public’sresourcesandsystemforemergency responses. However,we areallrelievedthat itwasnot anemergencysituationandveryproud ofthe mannerin which officers responded,”sheadded.
