According to the Texas Association of School Administrators website, since 1969, the Texas State Teacher of the Year (TOY) Program has honored excellence in classroom education and provided a forum to showcase many outstanding educators whose efforts and example have inspired their students, their colleagues and the communities they serve.
Texas Teacher of the Year is the highest honor that the State of Texas can bestow upon a teacher. Facilitated by the Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA), the Texas Teacher of the Year Program annually recognizes and rewards teachers who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and excellence in teaching.
Beaumont ISD will honor all campus teachers of the year at the Celebration of Excellence Gala on Friday, May 29, 2015. All nominees must complete an interview with the Selection Committee, which will be comprised of business partners, parents, students and other community stakeholders. An elementary and secondary division teacher of the year will be named for the 2015-2016 school year. Both individuals will move on to the Regional Teacher of the Year program.
The criteria, provided by the Texas Association of School Administrators, are used for both the state and national programs. The Teacher of the Year candidate should:
--be an exceptionally dedicated, knowledgeable, and skilled teacher in any state-approved or accredited school (containing some configuration of pre-K through grade 12) who is planning to continue in an active teaching status for the school year;
--inspire students of all backgrounds and abilities to learn;
--have the respect and admiration of students, parents, and colleagues;
--play an active and useful role in the community, as well as in the school;
--be poised, articulate, and possess the energy to withstand a taxing schedule; and
--have been a teacher in Beaumont ISD for three years.
Tickets for the Gala are $40 and can be purchased beginning April 20. Pre-ordering is also available. The attire for the evening is formal. For more information, call 409-617-5042.
