Beaumont ISD's Fine Arts Department has been hard at work recently garnering awards and recognition in several areas such as dance and music.
Texas Dance Educators Association
Over 170 All-State dancers and their dance/drill team directors attended the annual Texas Dance Educators Association convention held recently at the Houston Marriott Westchase. The dancers learned choreography from Kristin Sudeikis, choreographer, artistic director, and dancer for television, film, and stage. The All-State dancers performed at the Directors’ Banquet, and attended various dance workshops throughout the four-day convention as did their directors. Lainey Bergen-Henengouwen from the Beaumont West Brook Stars and her Director Tisha Smith represented Beaumont ISD.
MLK Battle of the Bands
The Central Medical Magnet High School Marching Band under the direction of Band Director Carl Collins and Assistant Band Director Mitchell Major participated in the MLK Battle of the Bands in Houston in late January and received top honors. The Jaguar Band earned 1st place in the Large Band category winning its 60th 1st place trophy for the event. Over 16 bands top bands from Louisiana and Texas participated in the competition. Clifton J. Ozen High School placed third in the Small Band division.
Foreigner Contest
The West Brook High School Choir won the Foreigner Contest and will perform with the legendary rock band on February 9, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. at Ford Park.
