WHO: Junior Achievement has invited 174 sophomores and juniors – up from 150 students last year ‐‐ from high schools in Beaumont, Port Arthur and Orange, Nederland & Port Neches‐Groves Texas, to interact and share lunch with professional engineers from more than 15 local companies and engineering firms. Together they will complete science experiments and watch sponsor‐led demonstrations ‐‐ all designed to spark student interest in engineering as a career path. Upwards of 75 engineers, across a variety of disciplines, are expected to volunteer. The event is being underwritten by Flint Hills Resources, along with support from all of the participating sponsors.
WHAT: Marking National Engineers Week, the Third Annual Junior Achievement Engineering Job Shadow Lunch creates an opportunity for local industry engineers to help area high school students discover the field of engineering through science experiments and dialogue.
WHEN: Engineers/student interactive science experiments will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014

WHY: “The local refining and chemical industries are taking an active role in inspiring the next generation of engineers and promoting the tremendous opportunities available for those with engineering degrees and trade or craft certifications,”said Jeff Tilley, Port Arthur Plant Manager for Flint Hills Resources. “Our company believes this year’s Engineering Job Shadow Lunch is a great initiative and is proud to support Junior Achievement’s mission to empower youth to own their economic success.”
