Beaumont ISD recently hosted 21 area students for the Houston PBS Regional Spelling Bee. Students from BISD, local Catholic Schools, Harmony Science Academy, and Port Arthur ISD all participated in the bee in hopes of advancing to the next level.
The Houston PBS Regional Spelling Bee is the qualifying bee for the Scripps National Spelling Bee and is the third largest local bee in the country. Over 10,000 students in elementary to 8th grade level from over 1,000 schools participate in the bee.
This year’s winners are:
1st– Siddarth Halaswamy (Odom Academy)
2nd– Dilpreet Gill (Harmony Science Academy
3rd– Christine Phan (St. Anthony Catholic School)
The 1st place winner will move on to the Houston PBS Spelling Bee held in March and the winners of that bee will move on to the Scripps National Spelling Bee held in Washington DC in May.
